Examining Nepotism and Elitism within Golden Dawn Tabernacle

In a candid exploration of the inner workings of Golden Dawn Tabernacle, we uncover a topic that has long vexed its members: nepotism and elitism. This pervasive issue has left many questioning their place within the church, as certain families seem to enjoy privileges and favoritism.

We will shed light on some concrete examples that demonstrate the influence of nepotism within the church, focusing initially on the Noriega family, headed by Pastor Isaac Noriega himself. Regarded by some as the church's "royal family," the Noriegas appear to receive special treatment, not only within Isaac's immediate family but also extending to other relatives. Instances of double standards have been observed, raising concerns among the congregation. Scandals that involve the Noriega family have been quietly swept under the rug, shielding them from accountability. Moreover, there have been reports of the church's funds being used to bail out family members in financial distress.

The situation of nepotism and elitism within GDT raises valid questions about fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities for all its members. As we delve deeper into this matter, it becomes evident that present members have allowed this to continue for far too long. This first examination will show some of the major ways the Noriega family utilizes nepotism.

Medical Treatment

Some examples of this royal treatment extend to the late Lucy Noriega. Her medical condition as unfortunate as it was, made it necessary for her to get specialized medical treatment. While this may seem perfectly normal and necessary practice, this is not often the case for the rank-and-file congregant who is discouraged from seeking medical treatment and instead pressured into putting their reliance only on their "faith" for healing. Medical treatment is highly discouraged and we will explore this particular topic at length in a future article. While Lucy receiving top medical care is understandable despite being out of the norm at GDT, this has also been extended to Isaac’s children. Two of the older children were morbidly obese, and then seemly overnight they lost a significant amount of weight. According to some sources within the family, weight loss surgery was used to achieve this. Again showing a double standard in allowing the family to rely on medical procedures.

In other scenarios, the prominence Isaac gives his family within his sermons is starkly evident. Young congregants are perpetually subjected to comparisons with his favorite grandson from the pulpit, insinuating they fall short of the mark in terms of worthiness or dedication. Isaac also asserts that his very young grandchildren (toddler age) have the exceptional ability to concentrate on his lengthy sermons and even echo parts of the sermon back to him, including quoting passages from the Bible. This claim is leveraged as a means to impose further stress on mothers, urging them to take stricter measures with their understandably restless or cranky children during such prolonged and monotonous sermons.

Family members are also accorded unique privileges that are not extended to the typical congregant. Within GDT, the ministry's approval is required if you wish to perform a song special or play an instrument in a church service. Despite a wealth of talent in musicianship and singing among the congregation, many members don't get to showcase their gifts. Isaac has been observed to deter others from performing, reasoning that they don't meet his standards of living. It's hard not to notice that the majority of these special song performances are done by Isaac's own family members. This continues regardless of the fact that some of these family members do not possess remarkable talent nor are their performances particularly enjoyable.

One cannot overlook the fact that all of Isaac's family members are hastily wedded, which stands in sharp contrast to the large number of unwed youth within the congregation. Given the courting system Isaac has established within GDT, it offers him an avenue to effortlessly steer members into marrying his family without delay. It's worth pointing out that if you are part of GDT and a member of your family marries into Isaac's 'royal' family, one repercussion could be a potential estrangement. The son, daughter, brother, or sister you once knew swiftly transforms into a sanctimonious elitist. They are urged to sever ties with their non-royal family under the pretext that those members are not "living right," as per Isaac's narrative.

As illustrated in the GDT Ministry Leadership organizational chart, Isaac Noriega's son holds the position of Associate Pastor, a fact substantiated by recent public legal transactions. Moreover, Isaac's sons-in-law, Joseph Torres, and Isaac Jacques, serve on the deacon board, with Isaac Jacques presiding as the head. The primary reason these appointments are possible is due to the absence of elections, with Isaac's endorsement being the sole requirement to secure a leadership role within the church. This pattern of leadership appointments certainly portrays a distinct perception of nepotism.

Double Standards - Going To The Mall, Sports & College

The family also seemingly enjoys occasional exemptions from the rules or standards that Isaac is fond of enforcing on others. One such unspoken rule is Isaac's public aversion to shopping malls. He has voiced the belief that these places are inhabited by demons due to the clothing items on sale and the way women dress and present themselves. The phrase "when you go to the mall, you fall" has been echoed from the pulpit, suggesting that men might visit the mall solely to lust after female shoppers. However, Isaac's son, Stephen Daniel Noriega, seems to be exempt from this rule, as he has been seen by numerous witnesses stationed by the escalator at the local Tucson Mall on busy afternoons, seemingly observing women as they pass by. If it were any other individual, Isaac would likely condemn them publicly. A photograph of Stephen Daniel Noriega at the mall, submitted by a reader, serves as evidence. While there's nothing inherently wrong with going to the mall, we highlight this incident to expose the hypocrisy that members of Isaac's family can sidestep rules that others are held accountable for, simply because they are part of his elite family.

Moreover, Stephen Daniel Noriega enjoyed the liberty to engage in sports during his childhood, and as per accounts from former church members, was even part of a Little League Baseball team. In contrast, the church today has enacted a complete ban on sports.

Interestingly, Isaac Noriega permitted his children to attend public school and college. However, in stark contrast, current church members are strongly advised against or even prohibited from attending public schools and colleges today.

Bailing Out Family - Scandals and Finances

Isaac Noriega's family also appears to be shielded from public scandals. In the early 2000s, one of Isaac's brothers served as a Deacon. His resignation was subtly executed with minimal fuss, but behind the scenes, it was revealed that he had allegedly engaged in adultery, which was known by Isaac. As per insiders close to the situation, this didn't emerge as a problem until other deacons learned of it later and threatened to resign if Isaac's brother continued serving on the deacon board. Instead of addressing the issue publicly as he would have done with ordinary congregants, Isaac had his brother quietly step down and resign.

Isaac Noriega also appears to utilize the church's finances to provide financial support and bailouts for his family. A recent case in point involves his grandson, Abel Jacques, who was rumored to be contemplating leaving the church around 2021. Whether or not these rumors were accurate, what is noteworthy is the swift marital arrangements made by Isaac Noriega for Abel after these rumors began to circulate in 2021. The following year, in 2022, Abel came into possession of Isaac Noriega's 2017 Acura RDX (Isaac's preferred model), a vehicle with an estimated value ranging between $35,670 and $36,970.

Key family members have been rescued from bankruptcy on multiple occasions using church funds and resources, as documented and discussed in our previous articles.

One specific example is the property at 3855 W Alvaro Road, Tucson AZ 85746, which was sold for $300,000 on September 23rd, 2010. Joseph Israel Torres (Isaac Noriega's son-in-law) sold it to Clemente and Angelica Noriega. Isaac Noriega provided the loan for this purchase and then discharged them from this loan in 2017. Intriguingly, this property was quitclaimed to Tabernaculo Emanuel on August 8th, 2020, as shown in the public record of this transaction provided below. Subsequently, on September 19th, 2020, Clemente Noriega III and Angelica V. Noriega filed for bankruptcy. Is this merely a coincidence, or is Isaac Noriega using church resources to financially support his relatives, providing further evidence of nepotism?

Is it plausible that Isaac Noriega leveraged nepotism to orchestrate a deal where his son-in-law sold this house to his nephew, then provided the loan to finance the home, absolved him from that loan in 2017, and subsequently transferred the house under the church's name in 2020 to safeguard it from his nephew's creditors?

The intention of this article is not to cause embarrassment or harm to the Noriega family, but rather to bring attention to the apparent uneven application of Golden Tabernacle's standards when it comes to Isaac Noriega's family. We realize that many current and former members can identify with this sense of nepotism and elitism. I remember one time I was at park place mall and I saw Stephen in the food court and he said he loves going there to see the “dandy candies” (women, young girls and little girls). He also goes to reid park in the morning to walk and see the girls. Also Clemente and Angelica Noriega’s whole purpose in life is to please Ismael (Isaac) no wonder why tho.This is Clementes’s third bankruptcy. I remember a long time ago how Clem would go on cocaine and drinking binges for days, His wife Angelica not knowing where he was. A couple of times he took H****** his daughter at like the age of three and would leave her in drug houses while he did his thing. Clem is one of the most judgemental people you meet and he has a track record of things he had done. For instance when the new church was being built Clem had a paint job going the same color as the church he stole paint from the church and used it for that job. He was supposed to be a trustee but because of that incident they just wiped it under the rug and he never became one but runs the kitchen at the church. This just shows how being his family makes a difference. He doesn’t have a title but he does have the position of power. As payment to issac he just became an informant.

In relation to the reference of once you marry into the Noriega family you sever ties with your own family. I can attest to this being true. They instantly become elite. It is known to all the congregation how Mathew’s wife Sharon Silva completely disowned her own family. It was heartbreaking to see the pain her sisters and mom and dad went thru. And still do. The Silva family has countless times spoken about how Sharon and Mathew have trained their kids to see their family on (the Silvas part ) as just congregants. Meaning: they are not grandparents or aunts. Do you realize how painful it must be for your own grandkids to not see you as their grandpa/ grandma!? But Isaac does get all these privileges and more. Another interesting incident was when issacs grandkid Able got married, the mother of the bride was so broken and said to one of her friends: pray for my daughter as she just became part of that horrible family. I just lost another daughter.- it is miserable punishment to see your kids in church but yet be so far from them.

I have always believed Isaac Noriega was in on the stealing the paint from the church project scheme. In order to help his nephew out of yet another conundrum. I heard a story that a particular family got COVID but did not receive help from the church due to the dad allowing a daughter who did not attend church to live there. My parents received a few loans from Isaac. As soon as us kids started “rebelling” Isaac denied any more help to my parents.

A little history on how and when Matthew Noriega met his wife. When his wife was a freshman at Cholla high school, she had a crush on a church member that was going to Cholla at the time until One day Matthew drove by the school bus pick up on La Cholla and he spotted his future wife. I remember when he would pull up to the front of Cholla in the morning in his blue Toyota truck, and his future wife would get in the truck and they would take off for the day and he would drop her off before the school bus left the school to take her home at 2:30 PM His future wife freshman year at Cholla high school. I would at least see them leave 3 to 4 times a week for the whole day.
I remember one time when a few of us left with Matthew in his truck and we got caught ditching school. We would go to the movie theaters next to the Tucson mall we will go ditch to Mount Lemmon. We would go to a X church members home to watch TV but our favorite spot was going to Pima West Campus, to check out movies and watch them in the library. One time We did get in trouble, and we were questioned by Deacon, Ray Aguirre, and he told us to admit that Matthew Noriega was not with us. The tactics that Ray Aguirre would use for us to admit that Matthew wasn’t with us was by saying that so-and-so said that he wasn’t and that if we say he was then we were liars. It makes me very sad to read all this, so many years invested there, so many lives, so much energy and trust placed in something that seemed to be heaven, salvation, glory. When you realize the reality of things, it’s like a duel, those fantasies die, that illusion dies along with everything that it means. You realize that we entered the game of a manipulator, he used us for his power and dominance games. He manipulated us into our fears, vulnerabilities, and illusions. A great void remains, a tremendous discouragement, and there begins a new life in us, a real, realistic life, based on what we really are, on what we really have. Reading the post is not pleasant, reading the comments is not pleasant either, but I know there is no other way. It is unfortunate when these so-called spiritual leaders do not want to listen to the people who have supported and believed in them for so many years. What makes me sad and regret the most is the twisted and corrupt values according to the logic of power that children and young people learn in the name of Christianity, in the name of God. Public records fine, but the narrative behind those records are inspired by people looking to cause division and hate to a cult.the doctrine etc being exposed is VERY correct. I really feel isaac holds a dictator’s hypnotism on the people, but i believe at his departure they will make the decisions they need to make. I’m sorry if it sounds like deflection. I am not intending that. My point was not so much knocking the blogs but just asking why personal info like house addresses, pictures of children in the “School” with their “teachers” (even with blurring) it is easy to see who they are. Document of grandson’s personal car. Is that completely nepotism? Has anyone ever bought their child or grandson a car before? It’s easy to focus on the family and bring these things out, but they also occur in many instances of people who are not related to Isaac in any way. I just think it’s not right that readers are attacking people in the comments because of their personal beefs. Such as the innocent yearbook picture you published. Was it your intent for the people involved to be called “porn stars” etc? I got to know many of the people you name here and it is plain to see they are stuck in Isaac’s kingdom too. Anyone involved in GDT knows it’s impossible to speak any sense to Isaac. So many (not all by far) are just waiting it out, and many are leaving. Many of the articles have been well written and have carefully taken into consideration how things really are. Such as in one article you described Matthew as been more approachable and continued saying it will be interesting to see what he does as he gets more in a leadership role. That was very fair. But now he is hated and attacked and anyone knows he does nothing, his dad dictates everything to him and you can see he disagrees. Also pictures of officials etc… many have Isaac’s agenda but there are many that don’t. I just thought I’d put my two cents in because I miss many people there and I know there are some real people there, but it seems like everyone gets bunched into one category of cultish members.
