A "Twisted Message" Investigative Series

    Lee Enterprises investigative team and the Arizona Daily Star have been working on a year-long investigation into Golden Dawn Tabernacle. The articles series being published this week online this week and in print next week are the culmination of their work. A special thanks to Arizona Daily Star Columnist Tim Steller and Lee Enterprises Public Service Journalism Reporter Emily Hamer for their hard work on this investigation. With their reporting resources, they were able to thoroughly perform this investigation, as well as gain access to key interviews and responses that we ourselves would not have been able to obtain on this site. We also want to thank all of the current and former GDT members who contributed to the investigation (yes, even Pastor Isaac Noriega himself participated by answering questions, which we appreciated).     "Lee Enterprises investigative team and the Arizona Daily Star interviewed more than 50 former and current Message followers, experts and religious leaders for “Twisted Message.” The series examines the lack of accountability in a Christian religious sect called “The Message.” Some groups that claim to follow the faith have become controlling or destructive, including a Tucson church accused of being a “cult,” an Arizona trailer park commune that physically and sexually abused children in the 1960s and churches across the U.S. that allegedly treat women as “second-class citizens.” The year-long investigation is the first news-media account of The Message and its global influence. 

    A Special Note from the Authors of this Site

    This investigation not only focused on Golden Dawn Tabernacle's patterns of abuse; it also explored the broader impact of William Branham inspired Message churches that are extreme and destructive. We stress this point to make it clear that this series should not be taken as an indictment on the "The Message" and all message churches, but rather on the lack of accountability and unchecked power in certain extremist, authoritarian Message churches like Golden Dawn Tabernacle. This leads to the child abuse, misogyny and manipulation that is examined in this series.

    Our focus on this website remains on researching and documenting Golden Dawn Tabernacle history of abuse and the trauma that has been inflicted on current and former church members.
